Problem
After revising the design of the touch panel on the main control panel for the latest generation of machines, a new concept was needed for the associated analog control elements. This was to include various control points, remote controls and an overarching concept that could be extended to other machine models. Simple guidance through typical operating processes without a display, language-neutral and consistent design throughout the machine and integration of remote controls were required.

Process
In order to focus the development of machine control more on the users, many workshops have been held over the years with stakeholders and control groups. In addition to validation and participation in the concepts, the focus was also on raising awareness of the topic and sustainable change. At these meetings, we discussed full-size prints of control points on the prototypes of the machines, different variants of remote controls and the hardware used for implementation. After several iterations, we developed prototypes of the control stations with the customers and tested them on construction sites with users. These tests were continued internationally and were incorporated into the concepts. As a final step before implementation, I created technical drawings.

Project result
The finished design offers a clear process orientation of the main operating point via symbols and colors, as well as a consistent use of icons. The different types of remote controls can be integrated into typical work situations in the user's everyday life. We defined three classes of operating concepts for different machines. To enable comparability between digital UI components on touch panels and analog control elements, we transferred the designs into cross-machine guidelines. These can be used to integrate each additional machine uniformly into the overarching operating concept.
